Cyber-dissident Luo Changfu freed on completing three-year prison term
(Mar. 16, 2006)Luo Changfu returned home today after being released on 12 March. Local sources said his state of health after three years in prison was quite good. He was arrested on 13 March 2003 and given a three-year prison sentence in July 2003 for "subversion" and "trying to overthrow the state authority." The sentence was upheld on appeal in October 2003.
A former coal plant worker, Luo was accused of writing articles for the boxun.com website calling for the release of a young Internet user, Liu Di, who was imprisoned for more than a year for the messages she posted in the Internet.
