Sichuan:117 infected, 24 dead(Pic)
(July 27, 2005) By 12pm, July 26 (BJ Time), Health Department of Sichuan Province claims that there are 117 infected the mysterious disease, 24 dead. Among the confirmed cases, only five are cured. The government has announced that the disease is caused by "Streptococcosis Suis". According to Mingpao, it is abnormal as there was only one death among nine infected this disease in Hong Kong. The death rate in Sichuan is much higher. The official statement itself is contradictory: it says "the disease is not contagious"; at the same time, it says "try every methods to stop contagious source". This picture from official newspaper shows that this doctor considers the disease highly contagious. 
People visited the hostital say the banner on the wall warns doctors "treat the disease in the way same as SARS". Boxun reader says some families refused to bury the bodies of the victims as they want the truth. CCTV also reported similar request from families.(Modified on 2005/7/27)
