House Church Internet Activist Arrested

On Nov. 26 at about 10am, more than 10 PSB raided the house of sister Ye Jifei, the fiancée of brother Zhang Shengqi(23 year-old) at Jilin city, Jilin province with which North Korea borders. The PSB office of Chuanying branch along with PSB officers from Xiaoshan District of Zhejiang province carried out the raid. They searched the whole house with warrant and confiscated about 20 items including brother Zhang's cell phone, address books, Christian magazine Life Quarterly published in North America,CDs with articles written by brother Liu Fenggang who is jailed at Xiaoshan etc. Because sister Ye was very sick, she was released at 9pm on Nov. 27 after one day and one night continuous interrogation, but the next morning on Nov 28 at 9am she was picked up again and this time she was interrogated by PSB officers from Xiaoshan district, Hangzhou city, Zhejiang province. According to our sources inside the PSB system at Jilin PSB She was asked on brother Zhang Shengqi's relationship with brother Liu Fenggang and whether any articles brother Liu wrote was posted on the internet through brother Zhang Shengqi etc. She was released at 1pm the same day and asked to stay at home as sort of "parole"-waiting for trial outside the court (Tingwai Hou Shen). Nobody knows the whereabout of brother Zhang however. We are not sure whether he might be transfered to Xiaoshan already. Brother Zhang's mother Ms. Li Mingzhi, 47 has been a faithful house church Christian for 23 years. She is now on her way to Jilin province hoping to send some clothes to her son who is under -20 degree in jail if he was found there.
Both brother Zhang and sister Ye has been working in Beijing in a computer company. Brother Zhang has been an active Christain internet writer. He might be suspected helping brother Liu over the internet.
“This is another case of religious persecution in China,” said Bob Fu, “this shows the overall condition on religious persecution has been deteriorating rapidly in year 2003 as a result of a Central Directive( 2002 )No. 3 issued by CCP and the State Council sometime on 2002 regarding a central government orchestrated campaign against unregistered church groups in China.” In recent months, there are at least six internet writers in Beijing and Sichuan province were sentenced to 4-10 years in prison because of their accused “subversive anti-Party, anti-socialist language" on the net. If brother Zhang is charged, he will the first Christian prisoner of this sort in China. We urge the caring people around the world to contact relevant parties to show your concern on this issue.
