This problem has been lasting for years, but recently, two suicide incidents caught attention of the world. (博讯boxun.com)

    On August 21st, 10 people burned themselves by pouring gasline over themselves, and eight reported dead in Nanjing City. They represented thousand families affected by the rude development that destroyed their homes. People mentioned that officials used mafia to push people away from their homes.

    On September 15th, Zhu Zhengliang - a farmer from Anhui Province burned himself in Tiananmen Square. The fire was put off by a police, but 20% of his body was burned. Zhu was hospitalized. He went to Beijing after tried five times to ecomplain the development in his hometown. His family was beaten by a gang of people after they resisted destroying his home.

    In China, constitution does not protect private property. When the price of land increases, the government officials can make a 'profit' by selling the land to developers, most residents can not get a reasonable compensation. In big cities, few resident houses/apartments can stand for more than 20 years as government repeately push people away.
