Is China changing to be capitalism? Ridiculous!

(Oct. 24, 2002)   Today, Boxun published an editorial comment about the recent arrest of richest business leaders of China. According to this comment, those economists and politicians who think China is changing to capitalism are ridiculous. They have ignored that Communist Party in China (CCP) has never changed its ideology of “State ownership”.

Punishing business leaders is for “making up a good image for the Party”, to show its people that this government is decisive to crash down the corruption. But if you look carefully, you will not find any officials’ sons/grandsons have been punished, though they get their assets in larger scale and in a more illegal way.

According to Boxun’s analysis, today’s China is different from 20 years ago, but it is far from capitalism. 20 years ago, officials had absolute control over all assets. Today, officials move these assets to their own pockets. While other hard working and smart business people must work hard to compete with these officials, this includes to bribe the officials.    China put national and local business leaders into jail every few years since 80’s. Under this system, officials are jealous of any rich people, as they believe “State Ownership”. Their sons and daughters are jealous too, as these leaders are competitors to them.

China has a long way to go for capitalism. Most economists use experience of Indonesia, Malaysia and other capitalism countries to forecast China’s future. Many people think that China will be another Taiwan (in economy) in 20 years. They have ignored that 20 years ago, Taiwan had much more freedom in economy and other activities than China today. Will China change to be another Taiwan in 20 years? Maybe, but not under such a system and practice, and not under the guide of these corrupted economists. (博讯boxun.com)
