China has blocked a few American universities's websites
(Aug. 26, 2002) In addition to blocking news websites such as CNN, BBC, New York Times (of course, Boxun too), China has blocked the websites of a few famous American universities - MIT, Stanford, and California Institute of Technology.
MIT has been blocked since last year, according to Boxun, the reason should be that MIT has a famous Chinese BBS. The reason to block other universities' sites are unknown by Boxun. There should be two possible reasons: 1) the websites have Chinese BBS that is operated by Chinese students; 2) the server of the university is used as proxy.
Applicants from China have difficulties to get the application forms from the above websites.
